Abstract
Comparative penetration tests of fiber reinforced concrete plates A.N. Dancygier & D.Z. Yankelevsky Department of Civil Engineering, National Building Research Institute, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel ABSTRACT Within the framework of a comprehensive research study of high strength concrete (HSC), the impact response of concrete plate specimens with variable strengths and different reinforcement was tested. The response of a structural concrete element under impact, involves the development of scabbing fragments at its back side, which reduces its effectiveness as a protective element. This well known phenomenon is expected to be more severe in HSC plates, because of the material relatively high brittleness. Consequently, various ways are examined in order to enhance the ductility of HSC elements. One possible direction is to use fibers or wire mesh reinforcement. The experimental study described herein utilized 40 x 40 cm concrete plate specimens,
