Abstract
Temperature Modulated Differential Scanning Calorimetry (TMDSC) is a relatively new thermal analysis technique that incorporates not only the ability of conventional DSC, but also provides significant and distinct advantages over traditional DSC. We first review the principles of TMDSC and then provide a number of characterization-type applications to glasses and polymers. The glass transition temperature Tg measurements by conventional DSC usually involve heating scans and, consequently, the measured Tg depends sensitively on the thermal history and aging. We demonstrate that, in contrast to DSC, TMDSC measurements can conveniently provide a more meaningful and reproducible characterization of the glass transition properties of glasses and
