Abstract
A unified approach to prediction of the effective elastic properties of statistically homogeneous particulate composites is proposed. Several first-order micromechanical models are reformulated in terms of the inclusion compliance contribution tensor (H-tensor). This tensor is a convenient tool to evaluate the contribution of arbitrarily shaped inclusions to the overall composite properties. The approach is illustrated by deriving the expressions for H-tensor and effective properties for several inclusion geometries and comparing them with available analytical solutions. Keywords: effective elastic properties, micromechanical modeling. 1 Introduction Our approach to calculating the effective elastic properties of statistically homogeneous particulate composite is based on the concept of representative volume e
