Abstract
Effect of wave-current induced circulation on coastal structure design N.M. Ismail Department of Construction Engineering, Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt Abstract A study was undertaken to defme the flow pattern of nearshore currents driven by wave-current interaction and thus to confm hydrodynamic mechanisms associated with morphological changes at ocean outfalls and tidal inlets. The laboratory part of the study was conducted in a large wave tank which was used previously in earlier work by the current author on the interaction of momentum jets and opposing shallow water waves. Flow visualization techniques were used to determine flow pattern in the wave tank throughout the jet and its induced circulation on both sides for a variety of wave and jet design parameters. The experimental data showed the flow pattern for two fundamental mechanisms driven by the waves and the jet; namely, a mechanism for along and parallel-to-shore current transpo
