Abstract
Numerical simulation of the behavior of Byzantine churches under gravitational and seismic actions G. C. Manos, L. Papas, V. J. Soulis & A. Diagouma Department oJ: Civil Eng. Aristotle University, Thessaloniki 54006, Greece. Abstract This paper includes a numerical investigation of the simulation of the behavior of Byzantine Churches under the action of vertical forces together with horizontal seismic actions. Initially, the topology of such structures is investigated together with the primary resisting structural elements. This is also combined with the damage observed in this type of structure. Finally, some of the results obtained in the framework of an investigation towards the restoration effort of the church of the Assumption of The Mother of God (Koimiseos tis Theotokou) at Zervati of the District of Argyrokastro, Albania are also included. This is again mady a numerical study complemented with a site investigation and a proposal for certain restoration measures. 1. Introduction - Nume
