Abstract
MTR Corporation has implemented a package Information Technology (IT) solution to manage its maintenance and supply operations. This is a significant change from its traditional practice of undertaking in-house development of management information application systems. MTR Corporation strives to be a world class provider of mass rapid transport and related businesses. It has a densely utilized rail network of 82.2 route km, 44 stations, 923 rail cars and carries 2.3 million passengers each weekday. The Corporation has always operated as a business on prudent commercial principles and the public listing of the Corporation on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in October 2000 has provided additional stimulus to adopt world class management systems.
