Abstract
Although in the past years some efforts have been spent in evaluating the electromagnetic fields inside trains, now -with modern trains, new signaling systems and infrastructure plants -arises the need to enhance the measurement and analysis method in order to characterize duly the exposure to time-varying electromagnetic fields in rolling stock. Pursuing this objective Trenitalia S.p.A., together universities and other national institutions, has developed an internal specification to address suitably this problem. The principles on which the method is based are mainly three. An effective selection of the measurement points by means of proper spatial grids. The definition of test conditions suitable in reproducing the main functions of the train in service. Finally, the adoption of the philosophy stated by the ICNIW, introducing an index that allows taking into account for all the frequency constituting the electromagnetic field.
