Abstract
BASO. A computer code for optimum design of steel bars S. Hernandez, P. Loscos, and A. N. Fontan School of Civil Engineering. University of Coruna, Spain. Abstract A piece of research aimed to produce a computer code BASO is presented in this paper. This software incorporates the complete set of requirements included in the Spanish code of practice for wide flange steel profiles. Therefore, nonlinear conditions related to web or flange buckling, as well of lateral buckling are a part of the optimization problem posed. BASO software has a graphical interface to provide a user friendly use. Two application examples are presented in this paper to make clear the capabilities of BASO code. 1 Introduction Optimum design of internal dimensions of metal structures has been considered by several researchers since many years ago. Sometimes this problem is one level in a multilevel optimization of complex structural systems [1-2]. Another contribution was pointed out in [3]. Lately, a lo
