Abstract
CAO-shape optimisation of a fillet with a complex, time dependent loading M. Ledermann, I. Tesari & C. Mattheck Insitutefor Materials Research II Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Germany Abstract Shape optimisation of highly loaded technical components often means to avoid stress concentration in notches like shoulders, fillets etc. This can be achieved by using the computer program CAO (Computer Aided Optimization), that has been developed at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. The basic design rule of CAO is the axiom of uniform stress which is adopted from biological load carriers. They use adaptive growth to minimise stress concentrations on their surface. Analogical technical structures "grow" by CAO at zones with stress concentrations. This growth and with it the optimised design is depending on the stress distribution caused by the loading conditions. Thus one load case leads to one optimised design, but for a time dependent load case only a time dependent design could be
