Abstract

The MARSK II project: development of a system of maritime skills training through information and communication technologies S. Tarver and J. Williams Marinetech South Ltd., United Kingdom Abstract This paper will describe the work of the MARSK 2 Project. MARSK 2 is part- funded by the European Commission under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme and is undertaken by a European consortium of education and training facilitators led by Marinetech South Ltd. The original MARSK project, which ended in 1999, aimed to research and disseminate information on the future technical skill needs of the European maritime industries. The project highlighted the need for improved access to training for workers through new and flexible methods. The MARSK 2 project aims to provide computer based pilot distance learning courses to meet skill needs in maritime industries.
