Abstract
The rules of Classification Societies contain requirements concerning the structure of partially filled tanks in sea-going ships. These requirements are in form of simple formulae for determining design loads and thickness of the plating. Due to the complexity of the phenomenon considered, some societies require direct calculations of the impact and sloshing pressures due to motion of fluid in tanks and holds, generated by ship motions. The most significant are rolling and pitching. Such calculations for a partially filled tank were performed with in-hause special computer software in Polish Register of Shipping (PRS). Investigation of the required thickness of the plating in the case of impact loads acting on it are being performed and information on some results obtained is presented in this paper. 1 Int
