Abstract

Development of the port of "Police" supported by simulation research W. Galor Institute of Navigation, Szczecin Maritime University, ul Waty Chrobrego 1, 70-500 Szczecin, Poland e-mail: inm@wsm.szczecin.pl Abstract The paper presents a process of port design supported by simulation methods. The port is one element of overall area of ship's operation where the navigational safety of ships handled has to be provided for. As port projects are costly and long-term investments, designers should employ methods which most accurately account for safety aspects. Such requirement is satisfied by a method of computer simulation of ship movement in a given area. The method was used while designing a port for sea-going vessels carrying raw materials for the Chemical Works POLICE. The factory was built in the vicinity of the Swinoujscie - Szczecin fairway. The computer-aided design has resulted in a port whose annual throughput amounts to about 3 million tonnes. Also presented is simulatio
