Abstract
The basic principles of constructing historical domes and especially cupolas is being described. Main emphasis is then placed on the unique idea of GEORGE BAHR to construct the Dresden FRAUENKIRCHE (Church of Our Lady). The discrepancies between his ingenious ideas and the reality of load distribution led to cracks right from the beginning.
