Abstract

K, Business Office: Marienstrasse 20, D-01067 Dresden e-Mail: office@frauenkirche-dresden.org Abstract As we near the end of this century, indeed this milennium, the rebuilding of the Frauenkirche in Dresden is a unique challenge for all those involved in the reconstruction of this extremely important historic and artistic example of European church architecture. From the beginning, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) was more than a place of worship and an expression of faith, as important as that is. With its bell-shaped sandstone dome, it crowned one of the world's most beautiful urban ensembles, the famous panorama of Dresden's old quarter on the River Elbe.
