Abstract
A study of damages to the Parish church in Farigliano R. Lancellotta, G. Pistone Department of Structural Engineering, Politecnico o/ T^rm, Corao Dwco dep% ^6r^zzz, 2^, ^O^P Turin, Italy ABSTRACT The church of S. Giovanni Battista in Farigliano (Cuneo, Italy) was built very rapidly and was completed in 1890. Recent geognostic surveys have shown that the foundations of this church are dug in a "connecting step" made of soft, recent- ly deposited materials. This compressibility explains the precarious behaviour exhibited in recent years by the static conditions of the structure. The paper illus- trates the finite element calculation methods that made it possible to study the behaviour of the building and analyse the damage sustained from the numerical stand-point; the measures taken to strengthen the building are also described.
