Abstract
Time dependent behaviour of masonry: experimental results and numerical analysis A. Anzani, G.M. Roberti, L. Binda Department of Structural Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Italy ABSTRACT The time-dependency of masonry behaviour is investigated on an experi- mental basis. Tests on masonry prisms from the collapsed Pavia Tower, on small scale new production brick panels and on brick samples are de- scribed. A rheological numerical model to interpret the observed behaviour is proposed. INTRODUCTION The influence of time on the mechanical behaviour of stiff clays, soft rocks, fresh cement mortar, concrete and hardened concrete becomes evident when both uniaxial-triaxial compressive test at different rate of loading and com- pressive test at vertical constant load are carried out. On the one side, when testing in compression soft porous materials a decrease of the rate of loading produces a decrease of the vertical peak stress and of the stiffness of the material.
