Abstract
Analytical and experimental approach to the load bearing behaviour of multiple leaf masonry R. Egermann, B. Frick, C. Neuwald Institut fur Tragkonstruktionen, Universitdt Karlsruhe, Germany ABSTRACT The aim of the research reported here, has been to minimise the amount of strengthening and repair by a better understanding on its bearing and failure behaviour. As results of compression tests on 33 multiple leaf masonry wallets of different thickness and stiffness ratios of outer leaves and infill hypothesis to the load bearing and failure behaviour are developed. These hypothesis are compared with the results of linear and non-linear finite element analysis. In some aspects even the simple linear elastic analysis is sufficient to clarify phenomena observed during the experiments, but only the application of non-linear material laws is suitable to fully explain the features.
