Abstract
A laminated wood arch in the Church of S. Firenze: historical and structural aspects A. Manned, T. Muccini, C. Alessandri Dipartimento di Costruzioni, University of Florence, P.zza Brunelleschi #, 50121 Florence, Italy ABSTRACT This paper presents the results of a historical and structural analysis carried out on a laminated wood arch dating back to the XIX century and belonging to the roof structures of the Church of S.Firenze. The arch has aroused a deep interest for being the first example in Florence of horizontally laminated wood structural element. Tests carried out "in situ" and computer numerical simulations lead to a deeper knowledge of its past history and its present state. INTRODUCTION The Church of S.Firenze, situated in the heart of the medieval area of Florence, is part of a huge building complex belonging to the Catholic Congregation of S.Filippo Neri.
