Abstract
A method that allows to identify the urban roads with primary function is reported and two fields of application are considered, relative to the hierarchy classification of the existing road network and to the traffic management. Moreover the results of the method application to a medium dimension town are discussed. 1. Introduction In this paper we present a method that allows to identify the urban roads with primary function, that is the roads used for trips among not adjacent districts or for extraurban destination trips. Such a method is based on the estimation of the so called "assignment matrix", that gives, for each link, the flows deriving from each O/D pair.
