Abstract
The use of gravity-type accessibility indicators in evaluating the compatibility between transportation network structural characteristics and the spatial distribution of activities in a large city is investigated. Urban socio-economic externalities associated with this compatibility are emphasized. A literature review of accessibility and mobility concepts and indicators is commented on. Some conceptual and analytical refinements in the basic formulation of gravity (or Hansen) type accessibility indicators are proposed, with emphasis on the accessibility matrix consideration.
