Abstract
— This work addresses the key issues involved in the implementation of a general three dimensional contact impact analysis program. A finite element approach extended with a special penalizing technique, the pinball technique, provide the basic ingredients for addressing this class of problem. Finite element technology employed uses reduced integration of internal forces in a parameter-free technique for hexahedron hourglass stabilization. Nonlinear behavior is accounted in the framework of an Updated Lagrangian-Jaumann (ULJ) formulation and the radial return technique is used for stress updating. In order to illustrate the implementation capabilities frictionless contact-impac
