Abstract
A Silicon Carbide beam target configuration is used to visualize the damage development during impact by a hard steel projectile. The measurement of the axial stress at the SiC/steel confinement interface and the damage observations allow to test an original anisotropic damage model. First experimental and numerical results are presented and discussed. Introduction The damage characterization of a ceramic armor impacted by a projectile is very important for military applications. Many studies are concerned in determining and validating models of the ceramic behavior under high strain rate. Considering the high cost of experimentation, the numerical simulation is a very useful tool
