Abstract
The structural dynamics and plastic response of truss structures under shock and static overloads is studied. The static strengths of an industrial structure are calculated and measured. A mechanism dynamics program is used to model trusses as collapsible mechanisms with equivalent torsion spring models simulating the elastic-plastic buckling moment capacity of the beams. The goal is to estimate and to optimize the structural crashworthiness and demolition resistance capacity against external projectile damage and also against internal crash loadings. One goal is to minimize damage to the underlying structures by optimal dimensioning. Possibilities of extending these models to more complex systems is discussed. Introduction
