Abstract
Structural behaviour of R.C. frames with flat beams S. Perno Dipartimento di Ingegneria Strutturale e Geotecnica, University of Rome "La Sapienza", Via Eudossiana 18, 00184 Rome, Italy ABSTRACT In the current design of R.C. frames, especially in Italy, also for seismic zones, it is usual to make use of flat beams associated with composite tile R.C. floors. The European and U.S. codes give some limits in seismic design for the position of the reinforcement and the width of the beams related to the dimensions of the columns. The problem is the transmission of bending moment especially in the external joints, through the torsion in the edge of the beams, particularly as regards to cyclic reversal loading. The aim of the research is to study the evolution of the stiffness and of the ultimate strength, related to the disposition of reinforcement in the beam close the column, to evaluate their behaviour under severe earthquakes. Fifteen specimens of external flat-
