Abstract
The influence of the random distribution of strength of materials on the non- linear behaviour of structures in seismic areas has been analysed with reference to a reinforced concrete frame subjected to vertical loads and horizontal inertial forces induced by accelerograms characteristic of hard and soft soil, scaled by increasing values of peak ground acceleration For each analysis, a set of 500 strength distributions, related to a gaussian probability density function, has been used to characterise with good approxi- mation the structural response by a statistical point of view The findings have been then compared with those obtained establishing throughout the structure fixed values of strength, in order to outline values representative of the statis- tical structural respon
