Abstract
The dynamic response of infinitely long lined tunnels of uniform cross-section buried into an elastic half-space to harmonic seismic waves in numerically determined by a special frequency domain boundary element method. The problem is three-dimensional since the seismic waves have an arbitrary direction with respect to the tunnel axis. However, it is effectively reduced to a two-dimensional one by a coordinate transformation and integration of the full-space fundamental solution along the tunnel axis. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the method and demonstrate its advantages. 1. Introduction The dynamic response of long underground structures, such as tunnels or pipe-lines, to seismic waves is a complex problem, which can be realistically solved only by numerical methods. T
