Abstract

Crossed inclined bars ("clepsydra type") in R/C columns under bidirectional seismic loading LA. Tegos, P. Matziaris, A.G. Tsonos Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece Summary In this work that is experimental is attempted for first time the improvement of the antiseismic mechanical properties of columns under bidirectional loading with the use of an appropriate arrangement of inclined longitudinal bars in the position of the internal diagons of the parallelepiped of a column. The new arrangement "clepsydra type" in which must be noted that the percentage of the inclined diagonal reinforcement is not bigger than the respective percentage of the perimetrical conventional bars that necessarily complete the inclined was applied in short columns which were subjected to a bidirectional seismic loading and their behaviour was compared with the respective behaviour of columns conventionally rein
