Abstract
The problem of harmonic wave diffraction by tunnels in poroelastic Biot soil under conditions of plane strain is solved numerically - analytically. The method is based on the theory of Mei and Foda, which considers the total field to be approximated by the superposition of an elastodynamic problem with modified elastic constants and mass density for the whole domain and a one-dimensional diffusion problem for the pore water pressure confined to a boundary layer around the tunnel and along the free soil surface The first problem is solved numerically by the boundary element method, while the second one analytically both in the frequency domain. This method can treat one or more tunnels of any geometry and plane harmonic waves of any orientation. An example dealing with a circular tunnel
