Abstract
Open science requires open-source tools that produce verifiable results. Nevertheless, a universal opensource tool in railway engineering is still missing. This paper presents an open-source tool for running time estimation to promote a change toward more open tools. Besides the tool’s implementation, the need for simple data formats and data sources is discussed. The tool was tested against a commercial tool and revealed variations in the computation. Nonetheless, the tool can already deliver valuable results for simple investigations.
