Abstract

This paper describes a simulation model of an inverter-fed induction (asynchronous) motor traction drive created using the SIMULINK software package. The objective of the simulation model was to study the harmonic spectra of interference currents in the motor windings and supply line under transient conditions. A simulation method is described which overcomes the need for long computation time and large storage which occurs when high- inertia traction loads are accelerated from rest to the critical speeds at which transients occur. Simulation results are presented giving time and frequency domain currents with step changes in wheel-rail adhesion, supply voltage and inverter modulation ratio. 1 Introduction The SIMULINK package used for mo
