Abstract
Harmonization of safety criteria: approach proposal for new accident reports R.Mari Department of Sciences and Nautical Engineering, Politechnical University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain Introduction Maritime activities, on where we are researching from the least seven years, suffers the greatest number of accidents among its seafaring personnel and ships also. Both official and seamen are aware of the tragic consequences of the high rate of accidents experienced on board over the whole range of vessels involved. EC and IMO actions programmes for Safety Prevention have as one of their goals to improve awareness of risk situations to better identify and evaluate them, and to perfect methods of prevention and control. In spite of this enormous effort, actual conditions on board vessels are not sufficiently well known as can be seen from the high accidents rates shown on all levels.
