Abstract
Considerations on safety of a ship hull subject to vertical bending were presented in the paper. An index based on the design bending moment and ultimate bending moment was chosen as safety reference. The ultimate bending moments were computed using the RESULT computer code created by Bureau Veritas and the Technical University of Szczecin. General information on the calculation method was given first, then results of calculation were presented for four tankers of deadweight varying from 22000 to 300000 tdw. Influence of corrosion, initial deflection of the plates and effect of repairing a structure were performed. 1 Introduction Bending of hull, due to possibility of defining loads in a simple way and calculating structural response to these lo
