Abstract

Inconsistency of the regularization of singular integrals after discretization V. Sladek & J. Sladek Institute of Construction and Architecture, Slovak Academy of Sciences, 842 20 Bratislava, Slovakia ABSTRACT This paper is devoted to the analysis of the regularization of singular integrals either before or after their discretization. Both the ordinary and derivative boundary integral equations are discussed. It is revealed that in the latter case the numerical results are sensitive to the application of the regularization procedure and discretization. The dimensional inconsistency may appear, if the discretization precedes the regularization and the boundary geometry is modelled by C° continuous elements. INTRODUCTION The Boundary Element Methods (BEM) are developed on the use of the singular field solutions (fundamental solutions of the governing equations). The presence of the mathematical singularity in an otherwise (physically) non-singular problem gives rise to th
