Abstract
A coherence between a castings shape and its total solidification time J. Hlousek, F. Kavicka Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Brno, Technickd 2, 616 69 Brno, Czech Republic ABSTRACT The solidification coefficient and it s dependence on the geometrical shape of a casting solidifying within the sand mould was analysed. It has been proved that an experimental measurement can be approximated by numerical solution of solidification of the casting. The program for PC was applicated for 1D, 2D and 3D systems composed of the steel casting and of a sand mould. The results of numerical solution of this problem show that Chvorinov 's formula for calculation of the total solidification time must be corrected. The paper consists of the mathematical formulation of the problem, transforming the basic theoretical equations into numerical ones.
