Abstract
The phenomenon of stem waves which propagate along a straight break- water are studied by solving the shallow water equations. The numerical result shows that the flat region of high wave height is formed in front of the breakwater and the influence of reflection coefficient reduction causes the wave height reduction. But stem waves are produced along a straight breakwater for any values of reflection coefficient. Introduction When the incident wave propagates almost parallel to the breakwater, its wave height increases and it induces overtopping and erosion along the breakwater. This wave is called a "stem wave". In order to decrease wave reflection from the breakwater, concrete blocks are generally constructed along the breakwater. This study investiga
