Abstract
Finite element analysis of crack growth from a rectangular notch in mixed mode loading M.R.M. in' & A.K.A. 1hsan2 I Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology (MINT), Malaysia. 2 National University of Malaysia, Malaysia. Abstract The direction of crack growth from rectangular notch for ductile material is determined in this paper. The ductile material is assumed to exhibit the elasticplastic behaviour. In the model, the crack is assumed to propagate when the Jintegral fracture criterion exceeded the critical value during the application of load and the crack tip is propagated to a priori. The direction of crack propagation is characterised by maximum principles stress criterion while the mechanism of crack propagation is simulated by deleted element technique. The model is validated with experimental results, which have shown good agreement. 1 Introduction The direction of mixed mode crack growth finite element model has been characterised by many direction criterion such as maximum tensile s
