Abstract
Ultrasonic method of non-destructive testing: quantification, application and computer simulation A. B. Aliyu Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Bayero University, Kano. Nigeria. Abstract This research investigated the possibility of using Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) ultrasonic method to quantify flaws in materials in terms of nature, size and depth of the flaw in the specimen. The results were used for such applications like measurement of the thickness of a three-layer composite material, or of plating on a plated material, and for determining the axial load at which a material will fail at the elastic limit. The mathematical relations derived were simulated on the computer and the outputs used to verify these relations. The results show that from ultrasonic tests flaws could be completely quantified in terms of the nature, size, and depth of the flaw. 1 Introduction In Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), - a method of interrogating materials for flaws and for determ
