Abstract
On the computation of transverse displacements of slender beam elements with a single sided crack under tensional longitudinal loads M. Skrinar Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Maribor, Slovenia Abstract Cracks may significantly change the behaviour of the whole structure and consequently the safety of the structure. The development of reliable models for the description of mechanical behaviour of cracked structures is therefore especially important. In order to extend the application of the computational model for transverse displacement computation of a single sided cracked slender beams subjected to tensile axial forces to more general structures, a derivation of a new finite element is presented. The paper covers the derivation of the stiffness matrix and the load vector. Transverse displacements obtained with the new finite element are actually identical to the results obtained with the simplified model. 1 Introduction As cracks may change significantly the beh
