Abstract
Experimental and numerical study of shock wave propagation over cylinders and spheres A. Abe', K. Takayama', K. Itoh* * Shock Wave Research Center of Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University, Japan Kakuda Research Center, National Aerospace Laboratory, Japan Abstract This is a preliminary study of shock wave attenuation over arrays of cylinder and spheres. Firstly shock wave propagation over a single cylinder was investigated experimentally and numerically. Secondly the result was extended to shock wave attenuation over arrays of cylinders and spheres. The experiment was conducted in a 60 mm x 150 mm diaphragmless shock tube equipped with double exposure holographic interferometry. Numerical simulations were carried out by using a finite volume, Euler and Navier-Stokes solvers. A higher degree of reproducibility of the shock tube enabled to conduct sequential experiments under identical initial conditions by successively varying delay time so as to rearrange the vi
