Abstract
A method for determination of stress distributions in the process zone ahead of a 2D crack A. N. Galybin Geomechanics Group, Department of Civil and Resource Engineering, The University of Western Australia, Australia Abstract In this study a general method for the determination of stress distribution inside a process zone ahead a crack is suggested. The method is based on solving a non- classical boundary value problem for an open contour (crack) in elastic plane. The boundary value problem is formulated as overdetermined on the visual part of the crack (where both stresses and displacements are assumed to be known) and underdetermined on the process zone (where nothing is given). The problem is reduced to an integral equation of the Fredholm type of the first kind for the determination of the unknown stress distribution inside the process zone. Its solution is found by the Tikhovov's regularisation method. Stability of obtained solutions is investigated for polynomial stress
