Abstract

This paper examines the propagation of elastic waves between two fluid-filled boreholes placed inside an elastic formation. Monopole sources are located inside one of the boreholes, while the response is calculated at receivers placed in the other. The dependence of wave propagation patterns on the distance between the source and the receiver, the placing of the source and receiver and their orientation relative to the axis of a cylindrical borehole are studied here. The Boundary Element Method (BEM) is used to model the dynamic system. Both spectra responses and time-domain responses are computed to elucidate the main physical features of the problem solved. 1 Introduction Several authors have studied the ways in which the material, the position of sources and the receivers influence, the wave responses produced
