Abstract
Accurate mapping of corrosion damage is essential for any system operating in a corrosive environment. Traditional methods of nondestructive measurement of corrosion have been limited in their ability to provide quantitative results. This paper will describe our efforts to develop a methodology to accurately measure the amount of metal loss due to corrosion and its application to corrosion control on transport aircraft. Background The Boeing Douglas Products Division has developed new organic pre- coatings to replace the traditional wet sealant in fastener holes and fay surfaces. To evaluate the new coatings a series of tests were planned that would require a method of accurately measuring the amount of corrosion that occurred with each protection scheme. Sev
