Abstract
In this paper the direct Boundary Element Method (BEM) is applied to transient wave propagation problems in linear-elastic semi-infinite media. Surface wave propagation on a three-dimensional half-space is solved in the frequency domain and the time domain solution is obtained by in- verse Fourier transform. Unlike the half-space fundamental solution, the full-space Green's function which is implemented in the present BEM code requires a discretization of the traction free surface. However, the discretiza- tion can be truncated at a suitable distance from the region of iterest due to the existence of radiation damping. To avoid integration of the singular ker- nels, the diagonal terms can be obtained from the integral
