Abstract
By coupling the Boundary and the Finite Element Method problems defined in partially nonhomogeneous domains but with infinitely extending boundaries, as it happens in problems involving layered media, can be analysed without any additional difficulties. In this case the layered part of the region is modelled with finite elements while the enough far part of the medium can be conveniently discretized as a BE region.
