Abstract
We will present a formulation for the panel clustering method for the three- dimensional elastostatic problem, making use of far-field expansions based on spherical harmonics. This would reduce the memory and computa- tional work for the boundary element method even more compared to a panel clustering method [3] which we have previously proposed using three- dimensional Taylor expansions. 1 Introduction Although the Boundary Element Method (BEM) enjoys the advan- tage of the boundary only discretization, a serious computational difficulty arises due to its dense matrix formulation, particularly for large-scale three-dimensional problems arising in engineering. This is because the method requires O(N*) memory and O(N*) computa- tional work using the conventional ap
