Abstract
The application of iterated defect correction methods to Volterra integro- differential equations (VDIEs) is considered. Polynomial collocation methods are used as the basic method. The approximations obtained are then interpo- lated and corrected iteratively by adding the "defect" to the approximations obtained by the basic method, extending corresponding work which applies to ordinary differential and integral equations. Preliminary results are given. 1 Introduction Iterated defect correction (IDC) methods have been used for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations of initial value type (cf.
