Lee o/ Comp^Zmg .Sczemce, f7m%era% o/ ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to describe some current research into ways of improving the usability of an integrated Software Configuration Management (SCM) environment through the provision of appropriate graphical representations for the structure of the items under configuration control and for the operations that are performed to construct and maintain them. The paper reviews existing graphical representations relevant to SCM and presents a design for a general graphical user interface spanning the major SCM functions. The interface supports views specific to particular roles such as project manager, quality auditor, software engineer and the user of a product. It is based on the C- V Lattice, a new SCM model that unifies the composition and version views of a software product.
