Abstract
Practical experience of implementing software measurement programmes in industry C.C. Shelley Racal Research Ltd. Worton Grange Industrial Estate, ABSTRACT For two years the Racal Group has been developing and implementing a strategy to promote and encourage the use of software measurement in its software development activities. The rationale behind the strategy is a belief that effective software measurement is both the catalyst and indicator of the transition of software development from a craft to an engineering discipline. The strategy has been designed to motivate Racal operating companies, that develop software, to implement software measurement programmes relevant to their business needs and to ensure that their programmes successfully deliver useful information to managers and developers. An overview of the strategy is given and progress in its implementation over the last two years described. Lessons learned during the course of this work are discussed. This includes
