Abstract
Following a project, undertaken on behalf of the CCTA (the UK governments computing consultancy and advisory body) a major need was identified for the application of quality systems and procedures to departments specifically responsible for the provision of Information Systems. A scheme was devised, tailored to meet the needs of staff working within Computing departments who have responsibility for quality - and also for the needs of staff working in Quality departments responsible for the computing function. The implementation of the Quality Management in Information Systems (QMIS) initiative takes account of the need to recognise peoples prior learning and experience, and the likelihood that such experiential learning could require supplementation with an appropriate, practical and theoretical training regime.
