Abstract

We present an object-based semantics for informative question answering in the University domain. Semantic rules specify how the internal repre- sentation is built from the parse tree for a sentence. A collection of rules is given for generating internal representations for the natural language re- quests that arise in the University domain. The action of the semantic interpreter is also illustrated by showing how it applies the rules to a par- ticular sentence to produce an internal representation. 1 Introduction In software engineering education, one of the most challenging problems is to teach students how to go from an informalized description of a prob- lem domain to a precise conceptualization. The informalized description is usually, in whole or in part, expressed in natural language (e.g., English). To assist train
